Austin made Trulia’s list of best housing markets for millennials, Business Insider reports.
Austin grabbed the 7th spot on their list the best housing markets for millennials. Trulia looked at several key metrics. These included job growth and vacancy rates. It also measured the affordability of a starter-home and online listing searches. Finally, Trulia looked at the percentage of people living in a city that were under 35.
Trulia examined the top 100 largest housing markets to determine the top ten housing markets for millennials. These are cities where the housing market is expected to grow while still remaining affordable.
Surprisingly, most of the growth was in the South and Midwest. Grand Rapids, Michigan took the top spot of the best housing markets for millennials. The other Texas cities that made the list were El Paso, San Antonio, and Fort Worth, at 4th, 5th, and 6th respectively.

So how did Austin measure up? Austin’s job growth was 2.3%. Austinites need 47.5% of their income to buy a home and 26.3% of Austin’s population is younger than 35. That all adds up to make it solidly one of the best housing markets for millennials.
